Summer has arrived and it is indigo season for me. I have got the vat going and am preparing a series of cloths that will form the basis for a new body of work ‘indigo scapes’.  The first cloths I dyed yesterday were cotton; whilst beautiful, indigo dyed cotton doesn’t have the subtleties of indigo dyed silk that I love so much.  So today I have focused on using a selection of silk off cuts that I have dip dyed, dried and dipped again.  I will keep dipping again and again until I think the results are sufficient to work into. This provides layers of varying shades of blue with ‘tide lines’ which add interest.

See how the dye develops into its rich blue as it oxidizes.  Watch this space to see how the panels progress.
