Marilyn Hall

My work references memory; remembering: bearing witness; – to the people and places that have influenced me during my life and made me the person I am today.

Cloth has the ability to remember, it conveys signs of the journey it has taken. It is my love of cloth that feeds an endless fascination and fulfils my creativity.

I use natural cloths and hand stitch into them, embedding them with personal meanings. They are often heavily stitch; the slow, gradual process of building the work becomes a time for quiet thoughts and contemplation.  It is the process of making rather than the result that holds the key to personal fulfilment.  I cherish the freedom to express myself through my art.
